Educated at Repton School and Reading University, he practised as a Chartered Surveyor for many years, specialising in high value commercial real estate transactions. Much of his early career was spent based in Hong Kong, covering the China region, as a Director for Jones Lang Wootton (now JLL) and subsequently handling real estate for Ciba Speciality Chemicals.
In 2012 he left corporate life at Savills plc, a FTSE 250 company, where he was a European board member responsible for European cross-border investment, to focus on what he enjoys most: writing and photography.
During his many years in the corporate world, he wrote copy for websites, press releases, presentations, tender documentation, marketing brochures and promotional material, as well as business strategy papers. He was widely cited in national newspaper real estate articles and real estate publications for his commentary and views on trends within the investment industry.
As a result he has extensive experience of corporate, business and personal copy, which in the current social media conscious world is ever more relevant as to how a company or individual is perceived and understood correctly.
He is quick to understand the identity and operation of a business or individual, what they do and the message they want to get across, in the most effective, concise way, through words and images. The importance of this applies equally to a large business, start up, sole trader, consultant or freelancer. Copywriting is as much about understanding the client, as it is about writing.
He particularly enjoys travel writing and photography, which is a passion, and has written two novels for which he is seeking publication.
Giles has taken photographs since an early age and documented his travels and working life abroad, before focusing on professional quality images for various mediums. He has a passion for landscape photography and people, but is also commercially astute on real estate and product photography.
In 2103/2104 he made two trips to the Balkans, photographing and documenting life in Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia and mainland Greece, a selection of which can be viewed in the images galleries.
